Very odd: Some of the modification dates on stuff in ~news/lib were
not current -- libstorage.a was from when I first installed 2.3.0.
So I just wiped out *.{[ao],lo} in the storage source area, re-made
and re-installed, and tried the echo|expireover again. I got
Aug 24 08:43:17 mesquite expireover[11735]: tradindexed: high/low out of range 11339 10338 11211
I'm inclined to wipe my spool areas -- this is a small, low-volume
server, and I can afford to do this if necessary -- and wait to see if
the problem re-occurs.
There have been problems in doing "make update" for ~news/lib under
Linux that have been mentioned in news.software.nntp. I can't explain
how the libtool symlinking gets messed up, but it surely does. Olaf
Titz has concurred on the problem, too. My solution for that is
simply to remove everything under ~news/lib prior to "make update".
But this wrinkle, where updating a .c fails to lead to a properly
re-built libstorage.a, is a new one on me.
