It turns out that I was looking at the wrong article number. I ran the test
again, and here's what happened:

in news.notice:
Jul 31 14:08:37 10.1.0.18 innd: localhost connected 16
Jul 31 14:08:37 10.1.0.18 innd: localhost:16 closed seconds 0 accepted 1
refused 0 rejected 0 duplicate 0 accepted size 1583 duplicate size 0
Jul 31 14:08:37 10.1.0.18 nnrpd[16659]: kfh.mqsoftware.com post ok
<tc0emtg40ochk7p02tcm2tbodua7rvg47d at 4ax.com>

in news:
[news at reddwarf log]$ grep -n tc0emtg40och *
grep: OLD: Is a directory
news:859:Jul 31 14:10:19.423 + not-for-mail
<tc0emtg40ochk7p02tcm2tbodua7rvg47d at 4ax.com> 1583
[news at reddwarf log]$

Does this make any light bulbs go on? ('cause I'm pretty much in the dark)

As near as I can tell, nothing appears in pathlog/news for that article.

How does it look like for that article in pathlog/news?
