TODO

I'd like to see Jeffrey and Russ and all inn-workers
continue to build on recent momentum!

What are people's opinions on bug tracking software
in open source projects? Under what conditions do
they start to help? There are 131 items in INN's TODO,
with more in the NNTP compliance list.

I took the INN TODO list and imported it into the
system I use for software action item tracking. The
output is categorized, grouped, and sorted, and displayed
in a table. I think it gives a clearer picture of
what is on the list that way:

     http://www.mibsoftware.com/userkt/inn/dev/inntodo.htm

This is just a demo, links to the detailed items
and the CGI editing links are not operational.
Personally, once my projects get over 50 items or so,
I think systematic tracking is important. What do
other people think?

That table was generated using my own HTML/HTTP wrappers
around a slightly customized GNATS 4.0. [1]
If you think it will be a help and not a hindrance,
I can set up this issues tracking system for INN
at no charge (and probably host it, if needed.)

Can something like this help INN?

Forrest

[1] - Yes, there are other HTML wrappers for GNATS available.
The ones I found did not work with GNATS 4.0, and/or did
not deal well with heavily customized dbconfig files with
added fields and enum values. None could propagate PRs
from system to system or do batch import and edit modes
(scanning text files like INN TODO and source files instead
requiring one HTML form per PR.) I needed better query
and reporting than what I saw in those wrappers.

But since storage is done by GNATS, any of those other
wrappers could be used to access the same data.
