can't renumber

I'm no INN pro.. got it working, and that was that.. It's been running
on autopilot for over 6 months, and suddenly, it stops running..

news.err states:

Nov 25 09:24:36 tux innd: SERVER cant renumber vital.sys lo too wide
Nov 25 09:24:36 tux innd: SERVER cant renumber


I have tried a makehistory -O -x -F to no avail ( i'm not sure if that
would be the correct fix anyway)

The line in the active file pertaining to the vital.sys newsgroup is:

vital.sys 258 9 y
