problem with authenticating against shadow

Hi List,

I want to restrict news server access to the people in the shadow. So I 
configured my inn 2.4 like described in 
http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/docs-2.4/readers.conf.html, but 
unfortunately, I can not log in.

the news user is member of the shadow group and
/usr/lib/news/bin/auth/passwd/ckpasswd -s -u jochen -p mypassword
just works fine.

However, I get the following log entries
