Current INN ckpasswd supports PAM, so you can use pretty much anything you
want that takes passwords. You can also provide your own authentication
plugin or binary that does pretty much anything you want.
We're actively working on a new NNTP standard that includes support for
SASL, and that support has already been included in the CVS HEAD of INN,
so that's available as a long-term option.
