INN's mailpost does this as well, fortunately.

Just checked: mailpost uses a program called inews for that purpose.
Message IDs are preserved (otherwise, we wouldn't use that solution).

We tried that as well.  However, this way, cross-posts to NGs won't be
translated into cross-posts to MLs.

I don't understand what you mean by "I presume that poster information
passes through".  However, it sounds like you implemented that setup for
your personal use.  In this case, I assume, you're subscribed to the
relevant lists.  Anyways, AFAIK, majordomo can be tricked into approving
a message to a closed list by adding an "Approved:" header to the
message (I guess this can be turned off, though).
