Possible reason for "rnews: cant unspool"?

Hm, our news server occasionally generates "rnews: cant unspool"
messages:

/var/log/news/OLD$ for a in 1 2 3; do echo news.err.$a.gz; zcat news.err.$a.gz; done
news.err.1.gz
Apr 7 22:32:29 genba rnews: cant unspool saving to /var/spool/news/incoming/bad/localhostBiQ9sM
Apr 7 22:32:29 genba rnews: cannot fgets after ihave: Connection reset by peer
Apr 7 22:32:29 genba rnews: cant unspool saving to /var/spool/news/incoming/bad/localhost0FSy7A
news.err.2.gz
Apr 6 04:23:43 genba rnews: cant unspool saving to /var/spool/news/incoming/bad/localhost0AiBmW
news.err.3.gz

What may be the reason for those? I couldn't find anything of interest
in the other log files, but maybe I didn't look hard enough.

Can I force the news server to unspool messages in "incoming/bad" with
"rnews -U" or do I have to write a little script for that purpose?
Rationale: I was able to flawlessly repost the messages, although from a
different source (I'll try moving them to "incoming" the next time, and
then calling "rnews -U").
