Personally I wouldn't recommend going near Arch at this point - things have
indeed moved on a lot, and bzr is the successor to arch. Since it's easier
to use and still being developed, try that one first.

(I prefer it to git, but as with so many things I think this comes down
largely to personal feeling.)
