I had OVDB running with db on my Linux box (Gentoo). As someone else already
stated here a few weeks before: OVDB is the least well maintained overview
index. So expect it to act funny if not linking it against the version of
Berkeley DB under which it has been developed.
Having said that, let me also tell that I did run my own server with OVDB for
around 9 months (ranks constantly on place 100-130 in the top1000.org
charts). The expireover of the overview database always took around 6 hours.
I had to switch back to tradindexed recently, the makehistory and rebuild of
the database took around one day, but I am not looking back at OVDB at all.
The speed on reading newsgroups is not slower compared to OVDB and expireover
now just takes around 1 hour (using XFS as filesystem).
