note: I've also tried to kludge this myself in my 2.4.6 (newsfeed)
cleanfeed.local perl script by dropping article instead of feeding it
to xrefslaves if it contains multiple spaces in Xref header - but
without luck: it seems that $hdr{'Xref'} is provided with stripped
leading spaces already.
