Error handling with broken AS-SET

If we use the "ripe" protocol we get the errors - but if we use the 
rawhoisd protocol we don't.   But we need to use "ripe" in order to get 
v6 to work.

Is this a subtle difference between the two which I haven't quite 
understood?
