problem compiling cruft-cleanout branch on Snow Leopard

Like Simon Knight a month or so ago, I've encountered problems compiling cruft-cleanout on Snow Leopard.  I get

$ svn co svn://irrtoolset.isc.org/branches/cruft-cleanout
...
$ cd cruft-cleanout
$ glibtoolize
$ autoreconf -i
aclocal: couldn't open directory `m4': No such file or directory
autoreconf: aclocal failed with exit status: 1
$ 

I'm not familiar with autoreconf.  I have Xcode installed, and

$ which m4
/usr/bin/m4
$
