Kea users,
Internet Systems Consortium is pleased to announce the release of Kea 2.6.4. This is a maintenance release on an existing stable branch.
Release notes for the new stable version are available at https://downloads.isc.org/isc/kea/2.6.4/Kea-2.6.4-ReleaseNotes.txt.
Source tarballs and packages are available from our Cloudsmith repositories at https://cloudsmith.io/~isc/repos/kea-2-6/groups/ for the updated stable version. The release is also available from the ISC download page at https://www.isc.org/download/#Kea.
Maintenance of Kea 2.4.2 ended with the release of Kea 3.0.0. Please make plans to update to the 2.6 or 3.0 versions.
Packaging Changes
In addition to the Kea 2.6.4 release, we have re-built packages for several existing versions. Users who have successfully installed and are running Kea 2.4.2 or 3.0.0 do not need to update their packages: the new packages address issues that in some cases, prevented successful installation and operation. The details of the packaging issues addressed follow. We did not re-build the 2.6.3 packages: users running Kea 2.6.3 are advised to update to Kea 2.6.4.
Affecting 2.4.2-isc20250522135511, 2.6.3-isc20250522135151:
Affecting debs: On purge of packages, a statoverride entry for /etc/kea was not removed, causing apt to complain if Kea packages were installed again. Normal uninstallation (not involving purge) or upgrades are not affected. (kea-packaging#24)
Affecting debs and rpms: systemd services were lacking the ConfigurationDirectoryMode directive which, in the unlikely case that the /etc/kea directory did not exist for whatever odd reason at the start of the service, made it create the directory with default 755 permissions which then prevented Kea to start. (kea-packaging#45)
Affecting rpms: The tmpfiles.d entry was setting /run/kea to 755 which can cause Kea to not start if the user rebooted since installation of Kea packages or if /run/kea was manually removed since the installation. (kea-packaging#41)
Affecting 2.4.2-isc20250522135511, 2.6.3-isc20250522135151, 3.0.0-isc20250623152530:
Affecting debs: Services were being started on package installation. This is something that we intended to change on the recent security releases, but was not properly implemented for debs. (kea-packaging#48)
Affecting debs: A tmpfiles.d entry that was supposed to create the /run/kea directory was not properly installed. This directory was still created on package installation and on service start, but if the user rebooted since the installation and chose to not use systemd services, the /run/kea directory would be missing. (kea-packaging#49)
These were all fixed with 2.4.2-isc20250717111551, 2.6.4-isc20250717094354, 3.0.0-isc20250717111736.
Thank you for using ISC’s software!
