=> ucarp won't help: IMHO it is far simpler to blindly force the same
Ethernet and IP addresses. I think the best is to do this in the if-cfg/
if-up system, there should be an existing hook which needs some food.

PS: I'll clone some VMs to experiment the address hack. If I
understand correctly, your OS of choice is Ubuntu 11.10?
Is there another detail which is not obvious when connected via ssh?
