Loopback is the name of the network which localhost belogs to.
So, loopback is need to only in /etc/networks file.

loopback	127	# UNIX loopback interface network number

If you still want to add loopback to hosts file, use the line like
bellow:	loopback

As for DNS, you need to create localhost zone. And if you want to look
up loopback via DNS, you need to create loopback zone.
