DNS implementations

"Are there others?  For example - are the mainframe implementations in IBM
MVS and IBM VM also ground-up
implementations?"


Response:
IBM has a ground up implementation that is used on MVS and VM which uses
DB2.  It still exists in the field today, however, we are no longer
shipping that version of the name server.  We have shipped a version 4.9.3
BIND-based name server only for MVS for several years now which has
enhancements.  One enhancement is to take advantage of true, dynamic load
balancing in an IBM sysplex by distributing work to hosts with the most
capacity.  The other major enhancement was an RFC2065-based version of DDNS
(before BIND8 was on the scene).  I don't know about VM and what kind of
name server that operating system uses now.
