Cannot delegate primary nameserver to domain

We have registered the domain name sixcolleges.com (as we are a Further
Education college), with opensrs.net (via a reseller).

We have our own nameserver at ntcwww.ntyneside.ac.uk (194.73.102.4)
which also serves (or has served) .ac.uk, .co.uk, .gov.uk domains,
without a problem.

When we try to change the primary nameserver to ntcwww.ntyneside.ac.uk,
the error returned to us is 'Unable to verify the existence of
nameserver ntcwww.ntyneside.ac.uk'

However, we can change the primary to nameservers which do not even have
a zone file for the domain, so they are not checking for lame
delegation.

Does anyone have any ideas (as the people we registered the domain with
can't help us)?

Does anyone know the commands that OpenSRS (or any other registrar) uses
to verify nameservers, so that we can check it ourselves and find out
what's wrong - (I don't think OpenSRS will deal with us directly).

Thanks for any help
Iain
