Nothing goes to syslog when I chroot

man syslogd

You'll see that syslogging in goes through a socket, and you din't set one
up in the chroot.

Simply create a socket in $CHROOT_DIR/dev/log, and tell syslog to use it :

syslog -a $CHROOT_DIR/dev/log
