Sure. In fact the name of every A record is a domain name!

Whether there's any point in doing this is another story: why
might you want to have an A record for usls.edu? [That's a rhetorical
question BTW. The whole list probably doesn't need to know or care
about your local circumstances.]

I can't think offhand of any reason for discouraging this. Some
domains like to add an A record for their domain name, usually
pointing at their web server. This allows the organisation's domain
name to be used in URLs without needing a www. prefix or whatever.
