It tells one at what level you are. Thus:

$ORIGIN xyzzy.com.
example1			example1.xyzzy.com.
example2			example2.xyzzy.com.
$ORIGIN sub.xyzzy.com.
example1			example1.sub.xyzzy.com.
example2			example2.sub.xyzzy.com.

The documentation describe it quite clearly, I believe.
