You upgrade by installing the latest release. There is no "upgrade"
procedure. If you want one - like that provided through things like
the Sun or Linux package management utilities - you need to write your
own. Maybe you could contribute that code to the ISC?

Restore the old files from backup. Or take copies of the previous
version before installing the new release. Typing "make -n install"
after you've compiled 8.2.2P5 would show you what would be installed
without actually installing the files. That would tell you what old
files would need to be copied before they were obliterated by the
installation of a new release.

I don't understand why you'd want to revert to old code that's *known*
to have security holes. See
