I'm in the process of upgrading from bind-8.2.2p5 to
bind-9.0.0. Everything built fine and named starts without
complaint, but there are some issues when trying to resolve
external hosts.
snoop'ing (the machine is solaris 7) the interface while
issuing a query reports:
foo.bar.org -> 202.12.27.33 DNS C 34.146.176.204.rbl.maps.vix.com. Internet Addr ?
foo.bar.org -> 128.8.10.90 DNS C 12.4.33.192.in-addr.arpa. Internet PTR ?
128.8.10.90 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
foo.bar.org -> 193.0.14.129 DNS C mingpaonews.com. Internet MX ?
foo.bar.org -> 193.0.14.129 DNS C fredom.com. Internet MX ?
193.0.14.129 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
193.0.14.129 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
foo.bar.org -> 198.41.0.4 DNS C freeshop.com. Internet MX ?
202.12.27.33 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
198.41.0.4 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
foo.bar.org -> 192.36.148.17 DNS C 888.voicemail-viaemail.com. Internet * ?
192.36.148.17 -> foo.bar.org DNS R Error: 1(Format Error)
The format error replies look as such:
DNS: ----- DNS Header -----
DNS:
DNS: Response ID = 12812
DNS:
DNS: Response Code: 1 (Format Error)
DNS: Reply to 0 question(s)
DNS: 0 answer(s)
DNS: 0 name server resource(s)
DNS: 0 additional record(s)
The machine resolves fine for its local zones.
I have another solaris 7 box and a solaris 2.6 box that this
happens on as well.
Anyone know what might be happening?
