BIND 9 needs both forward and reverse

I suspect that you are using 'nslookup', and then concluding that
because it doesn't work right, it's BIND that's failing.  Either that,
or there are servers like 'sendmail' that need reverse lookups.
Because BIND really doesn't care.

On the other hand, you really SHOULD have your reverse lookup zones set
up.

Try 'dig' or 'host'.
