Just built BIND 9.2.0a2 on Redhat 6.1 system with
egcs-2.91.66 and 2.2.17 kernel.

Fed a variety of steadily reducing zone files till I got to
one zone file named.conf it repeatedly spat out

Jun 14 15:36:54 linux1 named[8794]: starting BIND 9.2.0a2 -c
/etc/namedb/named.conf
Jun 14 15:36:54 linux1 named[8794]: using 1 CPU
Jun 14 15:36:54 linux1 named: named startup succeeded
Jun 14 15:36:55 linux1 named[8794]: loading configuration
from '/etc/namedb/named.conf'
Jun 14 15:36:55 linux1 named[8794]: no IPv6 interfaces found
Jun 14 15:36:55 linux1 named[8794]: listening on IPv4
interface lo, 127.0.0.1#53
... Two other IPv4 interfaces that should not interest
anyone else....
Jun 14 15:36:55 linux1 named[8794]: loading configuration:
already exists
Jun 14 15:36:55 linux1 named[8794]: exiting (due to fatal
error)

The last two lines being new and unwanted.

A straight ./configure, make, make install, and I don't "-u"
the named when starting it just a straight "named -c
/etc/namedb/named.conf".

Old news, or should I actually figure out what is wrong
myself. Just trying a slightly newer Linux, but if anyone
can save me the digging...

PS: I suspect named-checkconf is bust in this build as
well.
