Newbie question regarding dnssec

I apologize if these questions have been asked before. I didn't find
anything in the archives regarding them though.

I am running dnnsec-keygen -a HMAC-MD5 -b 128 -n HOST <filename>

I am then prompted to then start typing. How do you finish inputting the
necessary entries for your keys? I understand that the keys are determined
by the time interval between keystrokes, but how much data do I have to
input? Does it just timeout after a while?

Just to see how long it would allow me to keep inputting data I typed about
8 lines then it said to stop typing and it finally created the key files.
Is there a way to generate keys automatically without typing anything (i.e.
does /dev/random used to do this)?

Again I apologize for these (I am sure) very elementary questions.
