My test box used ReiserFS with Mandrake 7.2, with various BINDs
including 9 for ages, never a glitch. Okay it only loaded huge
numbers of zones when I was testing such things.

If down time is an issue, just do it.

fsck of an hour or more? Well you have to switch all the
(writable) filesystems to ReiserFS to get quick reboot times,
not just the /var/named one. fsck time will depend on total size
with extfs2, as all the empty bits need checking as well.
