if you're logged into the Solaris box try:

# grep BIND /var/adm/messages

on my system this shows:

Aug 21 15:30:40 steel named[8131]: [ID 866145 daemon.notice] starting =
BIND 9.2.1 -c etc/named.conf -u bind
