That's exactly what I thought, but since WinXP detects if your NIC is
connected to a network it disables any name lookup (very smart move).

why should I query a DNS if I'm not connected to the net ? I wont access any
server afterall ?

As I said in my previous e-mail, if I connect a Jumper Cable in my NIC it
does the trick, because WinXP thinks I'm connected! it is funny, isn't it?
