--sharedstatedir

When I issue `./configure --help` the explanation for the option
--sharedstatedir is that it defines the path for "modifiable
architechture-independent data"

What actually goes into this directory when building BIND under a 2.4 Kernel
Linux distro? Any help greatly appreciated and feel free to tell me to FAQ
off :)
