Jeff,

As others have said, you do not need to run/learn BIND in order to have
Apache run correctly.  You could have someone else host your dns.

On the other hand, if you want to host your own dns, then, you will need
to learn how to run a dns name server of some type.  BIND is not the
only name server on the planet, however, IMHO it is the best one.  

If you are going to run BIND, you *will* need DNS & BIND, 4th Edition.

Hi, I am a computer engineering student that, for fun and learning,

set up a server.  I have set up Apache on my Linux machine and I can see
the
test web page by typing in my IP address.  I can't get there by typing
in my
registered domain name, however.  I think I have figured out that
getting my
domain name to point to my IP address requires messing around with Bind.
