Option to disable EDNS0?

I kind of doubt that EDNS0 is the root cause of your problem (the 
failover from EDNS0 to non-EDNS0 is very quick), but if you want to 
disable it on a per-nameserver basis, use

server a.b.c.d {
    edns no;
