We are still experiencing problems:

Someone suggested that it may be a firewall issue. We have contacted
our fw vendor and made changes to allow all dns traffic through. This
didn't fix the problem.

Next, I installed bind 9.3beta4 on one of the machines and forced edns
size to 512. About an hour later this box failed.

We are getting desperate. I can provide tcpdumps and configs if
necessary.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.
