I'm at home now, but will verify in the am. nsswitch.conf is usualy files, nis, dns. The hosts file should only contain self and nis servers. nis should only return hosts on my lan. This is my standard setup and I know I have the problem on multiple systems. I will post what I find in the am. Thanks Gary
