In addition to what Jeremy suggests, I suggest using Adam Tkac's (of 
this list) Bind 9.4-P1 rpms (http://people.redhat.com/atkac/bind/) in 
place of CentOS's. At least, I've rebuilt his RHL5 srpm on my own two 
respectively x86_32 and x86_64 RHL5 Bind servers.

I personally have my very own setup, with all the meat in /var/named and 
symlinks from 2 of them, the equivalent of named.conf, and rndc.key to 
/etc (that's how I've always worked with Bind since 1997)
