Preparing for DNSSEC

Hello,

 in ISC page - http://www.isc.org/sw/bind/docs/dnssec.html ,
 it is written "Use resolvers that are DNSSEC capable...".
 My question is what is resolver to thousands of computers scattered
 all over the campus network? Some of them are running rather old OSs.
 Are these resolvers , the organization names servers? Or the "stub"
 resolver libraries on these computers?
