9.4.0rc2 and powerpc

9.4.2rc2 with this patch didn't compile on Mac OS X Server 10.4.8
(while vanilla 9.4.2rc2 did).  Build environment is as follows:

Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.1: Mon Sep 25 19:45:30 PDT 2006; root:xnu-792.13.8.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power powerpc
gcc version 4.0.1 (Apple Computer, Inc. build 5363)
Apple Computer, Inc. version cctools-622.3.obj~2, GNU assembler version 1.38
