Data size limits on named

Hi,

We're experiencing some named 9.16.6 crashes when datasize is limited to
200M.

1) Why is this limit settable at all when named will abort() when it is
reached (as no memory can be allocated any more) rather than eg
reject/drop some requests.

2) If is is required for something or another, what are sensible values,
as 200M seems to be too small?
