The Botan "Portable, easy to use, and efficient C++ crypto library"
http://botan.randombit.net/
has been introduced as a new dependency for BIND 10.
It uses botan/hash.h so needs botan 1.8 at least.
I am working on getting the the autobuild systems with correct versions.
The FreeBSD and pkgsrc (used on NetBSD, Mac OS X, and Solaris) packages
have a good enough version. Except the pkgsrc build for botan failed on
sun4u -- I will share my feedback to the botan developers list on my
workarounds there. Our Debian and CentOS package repos are old versions
-- as you would expect from them. So I will either build from source or
pkgsrc there or figure out how to get better packages.
Anyways, this is a heads up since we have several failures currently.
