I think that during `make install' itself, you get messages informing
that it may be necessary to run ldconfig afterwards.

I assumed that it would be necessary to change this in several places
in the tree.

It's difficult to estimate such tickets. The reason for the bug may
evade us for a long time. At least in this case, it happens every time
and we can investigate it easily. Plus there's the fix (which may or
may not be trivial).

In this case it doesn't happen every time, but it seems we have core
dumps.

Again, this type of problem is difficult to estimate properly unless we
have already determined the cause.
