I think the first one is worth doing soonish.
As for the second, while I do not necessarily oppose to the specific
idea, I'd first consider this at a higher level, i.e., how/whether
users should handle configuration changes. It might be some way of
automatic conversion or it may be okay to ask them to fix. There can
be some middleground, of course, and it's quite possible that it may
not be "one policy fits all cases". On clarifying these, we can then
discuss how to do that. I guess these will be part of configuration
overhaul.
