 FYI, I think I mailed about this as well,

 if memory serves me well, the biggest reason we didn't include it in the
 standard distribution is because it requires python 2, and we did not want
 to add yet another dependency (that and the original plan to perhaps
 distribute the lettuce tests as a separate tarball; as of right now it
 should not depend on anything from the bind10 code tree, just that bind10
 and some general tools such as dig and nsupdate are available on the
 system)
