State of the tree?

It's pretty solid, actually, but it doesn't have your compatibility
hack yet (I'm almost done with it - honest!).   It is probably more
stable right now than it will be when I check in the changes to
implement function and procedure calls, since I also had to change the
variable evaluation mechanism somewhat to make functions and
procedures work.   Not a big deal, though, hopefully.
