Correct version to develop for without cvs access

Hi,

Sorry if it is a well known thing (it isn't for me) but what version 
should I base my patches if:
1. I don't have cvs access
2. I would want to work on the ldap support: ( two problems I've faced:
     A. no IPv6 support in the ldap interface (patches which need 
forward porting do exist)
     B. the schema used is perfect for storing dhcp configuration in 
OpenLDAP, however it conflicts with the schema used by Microsofts Active 
Directory (fact observed at planing a migration from OpenLDAP to Samba4)
