I also use scripts (Perl) to generate both the "class" definition statements and the "pool" statements and I'm including these generated files to the dhcpd.conf file.
My problem is that I do not know if this mechanism is scaleable enough in case of 50,000 - 100,000 subscribers which is my target..I'm afraid the class feature originally was not designed for such purpose..
I hope that this software can handle such amount of class definitions (100,000) and pool definitions (100,000) but I do not know the consequences in terms of memory usage, CPU usage, response time etc.
If it works then the next issue will be to shorten the DHCPD startup time which is now more then two hour (on a slow Sun Ultra 10). Of course with a stronger SUN it can be shortened..
That's why I would like to find a different method which should mean less stress for the DHCPD (like on-line retrieving IP address from an external database based on option 82 circuit ID.)
