makehistory -i

I am experienceing a problem with inn-2.2.2.
I am trying to run it on an Sparc Ultra2 running Solaris 2.7(32bit mode)
The machine has 256meg of memory
i configured it with 
# configure  --prefix=/var/news --with-perl --enable-tagged-hash  --with-largefiles

it makes and installes ok.
I then created the cycbuffs at /var/news/spool/cycbuffs/
-rw-rw-r--   1 news     1024000000 Apr  5 17:06 buf1
-rw-rw-r--   1 news     1024000000 Apr  5 17:06 buf2
-rw-rw-r--   1 news     1024000000 Apr  5 17:06 buf3
-rw-rw-r--   1 news     1024000000 Apr  5 17:06 buf4
..... and so on.


My /var/news/etc/cycbuff.conf is setup very standard...
cycbuff:buf1:/var/news/spool/cycbuffs/buf1:1024000000
cycbuff:buf2:/var/news/spool/cycbuffs/buf2:1024000000
cycbuff:buf3:/var/news/spool/cycbuffs/buf3:1024000000
cycbuff:buf4:/var/news/spool/cycbuffs/buf4:1024000000
....... 
metacycbuff:ALT:buf1,buf2,buf3,buf3,buf4,buf5,buf6,buf7,buf8,buf9,buf10
metacycbuff:ALTOTHER:buf11,buf12,buf13
metacycbuff:SPECIAL:buf14,buf15
..... and so on.


My storage.conf is setup almost word for word as another site localy..
method cnfs {
        newsgroups: alt.binaries.*
        class: 1
        options: ALTOTHER
}

method cnfs {

newsgroups: alt.angst,alt.cynicism,alt.bitterness,alt.despair,alt.suicid
e.holiday,alt.thinking.hurts,alt.life.sucks,alt.misanthropy,alt.flame.roomate

Yet when I run "makehistory -i" I get the following in my logs.

 the buff that generates the error is the 17th of all the buffs in line
to be used.
 I ran it twice using diffrent buffs. I can get the one that
 failed to be recognized but only if it is cycbuf 16 or lower in
 in order of use.


Can you please let me know what is going on here.  We are hurting for a
new news server that will work as it should and I have not been able to
figure this one out.. I have posted to news.software.nntp with no luck I
have even gone to irc to ask questions...
