can't dbzinit

In upgrading from the 12/4 snapshot to the 12/7 snapshot, the 12/7 binaries 
fail to run with the following syslog error:

Dec  7 11:53:34 HSNX innd: SERVER cant dbzinit /usr/local/news/db/history 
Argument out of domain

thoughts? i built the package with all the same config params as last time 
(--with-perl and --with-largefiles, for solaris 7).

also, as an aside  - i installed the perl development version 5.005_62 
before installing the 12/4 snapshot, and found that the only way i could 
get the package to install was to comment out the

#include "ppport.h"

in innd/perl.c, lib/perl.c, and nnrpd/perl.c.

i'm sure that's the wrong thing to do, but it got it to run...
