another 'bug or pilot error' query

on my feed exchanger i run news.daily twice a day. since monday's 3am run, 
my daily usenet report has been massive - with tens of thousands of lines 
such as the following:

as y'all are probably painfully aware by now, i have a bad case of 
'tweakitis', coupled with lack of revision control. so, it's certainly 
possible/likely i munged something. this is the 10-06 snapshot, under 
solaris 7, gcc 2.95.1.

i tried compiling the 10-11 snapshot last night, but the 'make update' 
failed, as it was trying to install the files intended for 
/usr/local/news/bin into /bin.
