You didn't even see 'expireover: could not expire ...'?

Expireover tries to purge articles by default.  If it's
invoked by news.daily either with delayrm or expireover,
-z is specified and it just writes tokens to be purged.

Oops, I've mis-told the option.

# echo "alt.internet.providers.uk" | expireover -f -

is correct one.  Otherwise, expireover behaves like you
wrote.
