Oh, yes, certainly I saw that.  I figured you'd just be expecting
those.  But they came to stdout (or stderr; my xterm, in any event),
not news.notice, which is what I thought concerned you, because the
patch would have induced logfile scribbling.

Fair enough.  Given that directory and file permissions are correct,
why would expireover have had trouble performing the unlinking it was
attempting?  The articles it tried and failed to purge are still
present.

I should have checked the expireover man page myself to see what you
were up to; sorry.  I just ran the updated command, and it says simply
"expireover: could not expire alt.internet.providers.uk" with no
observations in news.notice.  The group's .DAT is unchanged.
